Rashid Shafi of Kupwara won gold for the country in the Nordic International Wushu Championship which held at Sweden.
Rashid defeated his opponent from hosts Sweden in 65 kg weight category. Training at Khelo India Wushu Centre, Handwara for the last four years, Rashid was selected during the national trials held at Meerat in Uttar Pradesh.
“His consistent performance led to his selection in the Indian Wushu contingent during the national selection trials held at the Khelo India Centre, Meerut. Following thechampionship, the Indian Embassy in Sweden felicitated the Indian Wushu team amidst appreciations,” informed chief Wushu coach of India, Kuldeep Handoo.
Meanwhile, president of the Wushu Association of India, Vijay Saraf, along with vice president Ranjeet Kalra and general secretary, Bhavneet congratulated Rashid Shafi for hisexcellent performance.
Kuldeep Handoo also congratulated Rashid Shafi and his coach at the Khelo India Centre Handwara, AjazHassan.
“It is extremely challenging for athletes from far-flung areas to reach international podiums, and credited the J&K Sports Council for establishing the Khelo India Centre Handwara to train youngsters at the grass root level,” maintained Handoo.
